DIY Shellac

My sister-in-law bought a UV lamp and shellac polishes recently and we decided to try it out today! I love my nails! It was certainly an adventure trying to figure out how it all works, but in the end we were left with really nice polished nails that will last about two weeks!

Shellac Supplies

These are the supplies you will need. We got pure acetone to take off any nail polish we had on our nails before. Your nails have to be completely clean. Then we got the Nail DehydratorBase Coat, UV Color Coat, and Top Coat. We also got as high percentage of alcohol we could find to rub our nails with afterward to make them super shiny!

These are my nails completely clean, right after we put on the Nail Dehydrator.

After Base Coat

This is after the base coat.

After each coat of polish, we did a 3 minute round under the UV Light.

You need to do two coats of UV Color Coat after the base coat. After each coat, do one round under the UV Light.

Natalie's Finished Nails

This is after the Top Coat and two rounds under the UV Light for Natalie (my sister-in-law) and I both.

The finished product! We used red on my nails and charcoal on Natalie 🙂 The result is pretty darn good!

Tip: After the top coat has cured, there will be a residue left on the nails that causes them to feel sticky. To fix this and leave the nails super shiny, put some alcohol 70% or higher on a paper towel and gently rub over finished nails!
